28/04/15 Today in BD Class

We have had a great day today. Every has been working hard and making good choices, even though the weather was a bit yucky.

Today we did some learning about the orchestra. We watched and listened to Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. We learnt about the different parts and instruments in the orchestra. You can listen to it here:

We learnt that there are 4 teams in the orchestra. They are:
  • Strings: You pluck or use a bow
  • Woodwind: You blow
  • Brass: You do a buzzy blow
  • Percussion: You hit it
After that we played a game where you can add instruments to your orchestra. Click on the link below to take you to the game.

21/04/15 Today in BD Class

We have had a great couple of days in BD Class. Mr D has been really impressed with how settled we are. We have been working really hard too.

This week, we are learning about ANZAC day and what it means. We learnt about the ANZAC Poppy and where it comes from. You can check this book out here: http://goo.gl/2A3QD4

Today we read the book ANZAC Ted. It is about a bear that goes to war. It was taken by a soldier and helped the soldiers feel a bit happier.
We also read the story, Greedy Cat's Door. It is a really funny story. We also did an activity about opposites

We had a really fun Kelly Sports session today. We had 5 activities to do. They were: hurdles, soccer, rugby, hockey and throwing.

17/03/15 Today in BD Class

We had a great day with Mrs Berney today. She was teaching us about the marae, the different building and what happens when people are welcomed onto a marae. We watched two little movies about what happens at a marae. We all presented to be the manuhiri (visitors) or the tangata whenua (people from the marae.) We even got to practise doing a hongi. Some of us did a hongi with Bugsy.
This song is called Ko Tōku Marae Tēnei ...it is about the things that happen on a marae. Sing along.
We also watched a story about a little girl who goes to marae with her friend. Watch what happens.
Here we are playing with our puppets and welcoming them onto the marae.

In maths, we are learning about "teen" numbers as well as "ty" numbers. This rap can help us with remembering that a "teen" number is 10, and some extra one.

Kyra was the Star of the Day today.
