30/07/12 What's Going On?

It was great to be back at school today. We did lots of talking about the Olympics and the opening ceremony. Everyone though the Mr Bean part of the ceremony was really funny. Check it out below.
Kaleb brought some interesting news to school today. He brought a petrified whale bone. It was found on the Louisville Ridge which is in the Pacific Ocean. Some scientists think it might belong to a beaked whale. A beaked whale looks like this:
Before lunch we got to go to the Life Education to see Jane and Harold the Giraffe. We were learning about "Food for Life." Harold was funny because he accidentally squashed a banana he was going to give to his friend Jocko. We learnt about food that is good for our bodies and the food pyramid.

24/07/12 What's Going On?

There was lots going on today in BD Class. We did a writing sample for Mr D this morning then we got stuck into a really good maths session. The Oblongs were learning to make groups of ten when adding numbers together. (3+6+7=__) We know 7+3=10 then add 6 and it makes 17. The Circles were learning to add tens and ones together. (45+23=__) We can go 45, 55, 65 then add three more 66, 67, 68. Or we can go 40+20=60, 5+3=8. That makes 68. That's pretty impressive maths!

For reading, the Bumblebees, Gators and Whales are all learning to ask questions about a book, find key words and use them to find the information.

This afternoon we did another Graham Braddock art workshop. This was all about using colour. We did some pretty awesome looking pieces of art.

23/07/12 What's Going On?

It was nice to see Mr D again today. We were beginning to forget who he was! This week is Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori. We are going to be learning about Maori language and especially how to pronounce it properly.

We have a whole lot of people who have made more progress with their reading nights. We have some who are now at 150!

This afternoon we started to practise our mini. A mihi is a way of introducing ourselves in Maori. Watch this space because Mr D is going to be recording our mini to share with everyone.
