30/07/10 What's Going On in BD Class?

What a beautiful day today. It was Mr D's birthday today. It was funny when the class asked him to play the guitar so that they could all sing "Happy Birthday." This morning we did Power Writing. A whole heap of people got their best score as well. We did some writing, then after morning tea we had buddy time. We had a big assembly celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori. Just before school finished, Mr D recorded another version of Maui and the Sun with Taine, Dev, Emma, Keesha, Jessica B, Jessica O, Robert, Timothy and Lily doing the voices. Ka kite tamariki ma. 29/07/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

We had a really cool day today. We had a day full of activities for Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori. We heard and watched the legend of Maui and the Sun. The we planned out our version of the story.

Once we planned our story we went to the computer suite. We got into buddies and we illustrated a part of the story using KidPix.

When were finished, Mr D helped us to put the pictures into a little movie. We recorded some our voices telling the story. We will be making two movies. The first one had: Jarden, Logan, Mercy-Lea, Nadia, Tasha Leo, Cory, Thomas and Mackenzie. You can see the movie here.

This afternoon we did some more te rakau with our buddy class. What a cool day!

27/07/10 What's Going On in BD Class?

We had a really cool day today. We did some good thinking for our persuasive writing. You can see this below. For Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori we had a go at using te rakau. It was pretty tricky. Mr D was very impressed with everyone at reading. We are all learning to read like we talk. Mr D was also very pleased with the class' effort in printing. Well done everyone!

Today's Daily Writing 27/07/10

We did some persuasive writing today. We were trying to convince our parents that a giraffe would make a good pet. We did some "Yellow Hat" (good points) thinking, then we had a go at writing our stories.

26/07/10 What's Going On in BD Class?

This week is Maori Language Week - Te wiki o Te Reo Maori. We learnt to count in maori. We played a game of "Beep" counting to ten in Maori. It was pretty tricky but we got better as we went on. Instead of saying "beep" and sitting down, we said "e noho" when ever we got to the magic numbers. Check out the video to see how we practised counting in Maori.

Mr D got all the Year 2s started on their spelling homework this week. They will be doing it every Monday and Friday.

For topic, we looked at shadows again. We did a bit of a change because Mr D showed us some new scientific words. They were: transparent (see through), translucent (sort of see through) and opaque (solid). We changed some of our ideas about the objects we tested.

We also did "Ole Soccer Academy" today. We learnt some new skills like zig-zag, and inside and outside turn. We played a new warm-up game called "Opposites" and a practice game called "Get the Bacon." It was lots of fun! You can see what we got up to in this video.

22/07/10 What's Going On in BD Class?

We had another busy day today. We started to do some persuasive writing. We watched a little movie about Goldilocks. Then we had to write down the reasons why she was naughty. We then had a go at convincing someone why she was bad. We did really well at reading today. After linch we did an experiment about what things make a shadow. We had a guess first then we checked it out. You can see the results below.

Today is "Moon Day." We learned about the very first moon landing. His name was Neil Armstrong.  We did some cool writing about it. We also did reading and maths. The "Oblongs" learned to play a game called "Rockets." This afternoon we were learning about what makes a shadow. You can see our ideas below.

We had a really cool day today. We did soccer skills. You can see the video in the next post. We did writing about our holidays. Mr D wrote about food again. We have all got new reading groups now. We all really enjoyed the soccer skills today.

Ole Soccer Skills: Session 1

Today we did some soccer skills with Coach Nick, Coach Finn, Coach Dan and Coach Brian. We played "Catch the Tail", "Sharks and Minnows" and "Cops and Robbers." We were learning to dribble the ball then do the "Magic Hop." You might see us doing some cool skills on the video clip.

Keenan's Holidays

In the holidays I went to see Toy Story 3. I went to my Nanas and Poppas for 2 sleeps . I got another wiggly tooth.On Tuesday I went to Jessica Bs home.

Hollys weekend

In the weeked my Dad took my sister and me for a bike ride down at the beach.  We collected some shells and a sharks tooth.  Then on Sunday I went to Lilys birthday party.   On Tuesday my nana and cousin are coming to stay.  We are going to make a lollie house shop.

02/07/10 What's Going On?

Well we have had a great last day of term. It all started with everyone dressing up in red. It looked so cool. Mr D did some writing about Red Socks day. After that Mr D was amazed at how well everyone is doing in reading. We had a very red school assembly, then we went down on the field and we spelt out the word "RED" with the whole school making up the letters. It has been a cool day and an even better term. Mr D is very proud of everyone.

01/07/10 What's Going On?

We had a great day today. We started off the morning with some Jump Jam. That got everyone up and running. As you can see below, Mr D had a bad time with his coffee. We all thought it was pretty funny! Mr D caught up with a whole lot of people to hear them read. Everyone is reading so well. Tomorrow is Red Socks day. It should be lots of fun!

Wow! What a special movie you all created.  Thank you, it was such a lovely surprise.  You are all so gorgeous on it, and I am glad that I had the box of tissues handy!

You are a gorgeous class and I have loved coming in and sharing your learning with you every Wednesday.  Together with Mr D you have all made your class into such a warm, caring, fun and friendly place to be.  It has been so wonderful to see you all grow every week into great little readers, writers and budding footballers.  I am going to miss all of you and your your lovely smiles.

It is going to be exciting having my own class again. I am really looking forward to introducing the little group I will be starting with to you on your blog.  I hope you all have a wonderful relaxing holiday with your family and friends.
