30/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of the term. We have only got one week to go. Today's Star of the Day was Tegan.

This morning we made maps of when we went on our lion hunt. We did some cool writing about the maps as well. Yesterday we did some really awesome lions because we are learning about the letter "l".

This afternoon Mrs Berney got out a whole lot of maths equipment and we did some cooperative activities.

Our big news of the day was when Mr D got Boh, Zachary, Ryan, Ashleigh, Baxter and Sophie to record their voices for our Lion Hunt movie. Mr D put it all together at lunchtime and we got to watch it. We thought it was really funny!

What a busy day! Keelan S. was our Star of the Day today.

We had to change the day around a bit because there were some problems with the power. So we started off with printing then we went straight into reading. Some of the reading groups have started to look at blends. Today we looked at "bl" and "cl"

We brainstormed all of the words we could think of that started with those sounds.

After morning tea we watched a movie about the story "We're Going On a Bear Hunt." 

We decided that we would so our own one. Instead we would look for Goliath the Lion. We chose some places to go and look for the lion then we filmed our adventure. Here are some of the pictures from our walk.

We are going to come up with our own story and we are going to record it and put it to our video.

26/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class

It was so nice to have a sunny start to the week today. Mr D wondered where everyone was just before the bell went. Everyone was at school but just outside enjoying the sunshine. It was Boh's first day at school today so she was our Star of the Day.

For printing we are getting back to doing all of our tall letters. This week we will be doing "t" and "l".

For writing we were trying to start our weekend stories in different ways so we can make them interesting.

21/09/11-23/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

It has been a really busy few days in BD Class. We have been doing great writing in class. Mr D has been  impressed with our printing as well. On Friday morning we took the kites out and watched them fly around. We did some great describing in our stories. For Maths we have been learning about weight and what is heavy and what is light. We had lots of fun at Ole Soccer on Thursday as well.

20/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class

We kept really busy today. We were learning to do the letter "d" in printing today. We found out it is just like doing the letter "a"except it goes all the way to the top of the line.

Travis was out Star of the Day today. That means that everyone has had at least one turn looking after Goliath

For writing today we went for a walk through the tunnel near the school. We had a great time stamping our feet and making all sorts of funny noises. We heard echoes. KeelanS. said this was when the sound bounces of the walls. There were more echoes in the middle of the tunnel.

When we got back to class we brainstormed lots of ideas that we could use in our writing tomorrow.

This afternoon we looked some aboriginal art. We noticed that it was made up of lots of dots. 

So we had a go at doing some our own Aboriginal art.

Baxter's first day at school

I had a good first day at school. My Aunty Tanya and my cousin came to have lunch with me as it was my birthday. I was the star of the day and I enjoyed taking Goliath home for the weekend.

19/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

What a busy start to the week! We had Travis and Zachary start school with us today. Our class is certainly growing. So, Zachary was our Star of the Day today. He looked after Goliath really well.

We had a busy morning of writing and printing. Mr D thinks that it is great that there are so many people trying to write all of their ideas by themselves.

We now have 5 reading groups so that makes reading time pretty busy. We are looking at the letter "d" and "a" and the sounds they make.

15/09/11-16/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

We are at the end of a very busy week. We have been doing lots of amazing work. Mr D and Mrs Berney have been very impressed with how everyone is going.
Baxter and Shanelle started school on Thursday. They have been our class Stars of the Week.

On Thursday, we were lucky to have Mrs Jennings and Mrs Hall come and watch us do our pop-corn writing. We looked at our brainstorm then had a go at using our words of the week and some cool describing words.

On Friday, we did some writing in the morning. We spent some time learning to play our reading games properly so that we can do them by ourselves when we have reading time. Our buddies helped us do our calendar art this afternoon.

Mr D has sent home some blog instructions this afternoon. It would be great to see what you have been up to in the weekend. We also have news groups now so check out the news groups on the side of our blog page.

14/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

Crunch, crunch, crunch. We had a really munchy afternoon. We made popcorn. It looked really cool when it all came out of the popcorn machine. It tasted really good too! Check out the movie of what we did.

Zayne was our Star of the Day today. 

We kicked off with some printing. We are getting really good at it now.

We did some great writing this morning. We were writing about the hail yesterdsay. We are trying to use interesting words in our writing.

Tomorrow, Mrs Jennings and Mrs Hall will be coming to watch us do our writing. Mr D reckons that everyone has got lots of great ideas to write about.

13/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

We got a real surprise this afternoon when there was lots of hail. It was so noisy.

We went outside and played in the hail. It was cold but lots of fun. It was like it had been snowing again!

Logan was our Star of the Day today. It was a pretty busy morning because we had class photos. The photographer had to take seven photos of us because we all had the "wriggles." Mr D got a sneak peek at the photos and they looked really cool.

For writing today we were trying to use our words of the week "look" and "like." We learnt about the the Letterland Boot Twins. They are two "o"s together. They make different sounds like in "look" and "boot."

12/09/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

It has been a very busy weekend and it has been a very busy day as well. Ashleigh was our Star of the Day today.

We are going to be working on the letter "c" and "a" this week for printing. Lots of people got 3 stamps in their printing to day because they:

• started in the right place
• went in the right direction
• touched the line.

Mr D was really impressed! We did our weekend stories for writing today. We are getting really good at our sounding out now. You can see it by all the tick Mr D did when we checked our shared writing.

For maths, the triangles made a zoo for bears. They had to make 4 enclosures. One had to have two bears, one had to have three bears, one had to have six bears and one had to have ten bears. The group was learning to make groups up to ten.

We have got school photos tomorrow so we need to make sure we have got our smiliest faces on. But I am sure it won't be hard for our class.
