31/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

We didn't get to see Robert and Eddie this morning because they weren't being cooperative. So, we started the day of by trying to convince people to try our favourite foods. There were some good describing words being used.

Keenan did a list of "st" words. See if you can count how many Keenan and his Nana found.

We did syndicate assembly this afternoon and Leo, Timothy and Hannah shared their photographs with the whole syndicate. Well done guys! We finished the day with looking at number patterns. We are getting good at counting in even numbers.

30/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

It has been a really cool day in BD Class. Mr D was at a course so we had Mrs McVicar. We had a great day with her. This morning we did writing and wrote about our weekends. We were really trying hard to make sure that we used who, what, where, when and why to add detail to our stories. For maths we started looking at odd and even number. We were beginning to see patterns with these numbers. This afternoon we looked at the photos we have taken and did a bit of a self-assessment about them. Now we know what we need to do next time.

27/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

It's Funky Friday!

It has been a fun filled, fabulous, fantastic Funky Friday. We started off the day with Funky Friday Jump Jam. It was so much fun. Everyone was so bright and colourful.

We looked really cool in our funky outfits. Hannah was voted the funkiest in the class. Check them out!

We did Power Writing again today. Jessica B, Timothy, Lily, Thomas and Nicholas got their best scores today. Jessica B wrote 64 words! After lunch we had school assembly and to finish off the day we watched the Dance Splash group perform their dance.

26/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

We started off the day with Mrs Berney. We did printing and reading. She was very impressed with how neat our printing was. Especially some of those tricky "k".

After morning tea we had a go at explaining how shadows happen. We brain stormed all our ideas then had a go at writing our explanation.

After lunch it was flat out. We had Kapa Haka, then a production practise, then we had library. What a busy day!!!

25/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

It has been a lovely day today and we had a great time with Mrs Stewart today. We did some more persuasive writing today and we made sure that we added more detail to our reasons. Miss Mahoney came in after morning tea with her daughter Isabella. Miss Mahoney will be coming in on Wednesday for the next three weeks because  Mrs Stewart has some friends coming from overseas.

This afternoon were introduced to our song for our production item. It is actually three songs rolled into on. The main part we are singing is the last part. It is called "In the Library." Some of your parents might know the song!!!

24/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

We started the day off with writing. Alex took the writing session. It was all about why we think Discovery School is the best school in New Zealand. We came up with some really good ideas.

After we had done our persuasive writing, we found out that we had a good opinion and wrap up but we needed to make our reasons more detailed. We had a go at it.

23/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

It has been a bust start to the week in our class. We kicked off the day with some weekend writing. We were really trying hard to use the "5 Ws" to help us write our stories.

After writing we did reading. We looked at some more blends. We looked at "sk" and "sp". We found it a bit tricky because of some of our "sc" blends from last week!

After reading we played a cool game for maths. It is helping us to count on from a number. Today we were adding 4 to a number. We were learning to put our starting number in our head then count on 4 each time. Our first time we took 4:15 minutes. The second time we took 3:35 minutes. We will get better at it.

This afternoon we had another go at taking photos of our buddies. Mr D reminded us of the different shots we can take and to make sure we don't cut things out in the wrong places. Here are our second attempts.

20/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

The day got off to a great start. We did Power Writing and 11 people beat their record for writing as many words as they can in ten minutes. Logan did and amazing 69 words.

For persuasive writing we were trying to convince our new friends who have just started school why reading is so cool. We came up with lots of good reasons.

This afternoon we did some cool work about learning how to take a good photo. We looked at some bad ones first to learn "what not to do." 

Then we had a go at taking our own. We were able say if the picture was a long shot, mid shot or a close-up. We also gave each other some feedback about what we could do to make our pictures better. We will have another go on Monday.
