31/05/10 What's Going On?
It was nice to finally have some better weather today. Everyone enjoyed having the chance to get outside for a change. We did some great weekend writing today. Mr D caught up with all the reading and maths groups. The "Circles" are learning about doubles and halves. We learnt about "magic e" and how it can change the sounds of the vowels. We will be learning more about it tomorrow.

28/05/10 What's Going On?
It was another wild, wet, windy day but we have had a great day anyway. This morning Mr D showed us a new website he made which has our writing on it. It is really cool. You can see it by clicking here or looking at the Check This Out part of our blog. We did some writing today and we did maths. At lunch time we got to watch "Discovery's Got Talent." It was lots of fun. Mr D started to teach us how to train some one to do a computer skill. We a re getting good at it. Have a great weekend everyone.

25/05/10 What's Going On?
It was a wet, wild and windy day today. We were kept very busy by Mr D though. We did some dancing in the rain this morning and we did some great moment in time writing about it too. Mr D only let us jump about in the wet for ten seconds though so it wasn't that bad. For our World Cup inquiry we finished off looking at and thinking about how we know who the teams are at the World Cup. You can see our ideas below. We are doing some really big thinking.
We hope that the weather is a little bit nicer tomorrow!
Jessica B goes to Carter Observatory

21/05/10 What's Going On?
Miss Ymker showed us how to make magical rainbows this morning.
We had to put milk onto a plate and add lots of drops of food colouring. Some of us thought that we might be going to have an interesting coloured milkshake. When we added a few drops of dishwashing liquid we discovered that it wasn't a milkshake that we had made, but a beautiful swirling rainbow!
Our writing today was all about finding a treasure map. The clue to finding the treasure was the rainbow on the map. In our stories we decided to drive down to the beach and search for our treasure. Wow, what great stories you all wrote. You all found interesting treasure!
For maths we all showed Miss Ymker how clever we were at telling the time.
After morning tea we read a lovely story that showed us how baby chickens grow inside their eggs. Timothy told us that the chicks drink the yellow yoke in the egg as their food. We all wondered how the chicks would get out of their shell. We learned that they tap their way out with a special egg tooth. Wow, what clever chicks they are! Come and check out our lovely chicken art.

We welcomed Nadia to our class today. Now we have 11 boys and 11 girls. We did some great writing this morning. Everyone was trying to remember to put in their fullstops and capital letters. We looked at our blends for this week: "dr" and "fr". Mr D changed some of the reading groups. He thinks it is great to see people moving up reading levels. Mr D hopes that no one brings any more Justin Bieber stuff tomorrow. :-)

10/05/10 What's Going On?
Today was our first really rainy day for a loooooong time. But we had a great day anyway. This morning we looked at all the things that make New Zealand special. You can see them in the post below. Mr D is pushing his maths groups hard. The "Triangles" are learning to count backwards from 20, the "Oblongs" are learning to put numbers in order and the "Circles" are learning to find numbers before, after and in between up to 100. Tomorrow is the end of Week 4. The term is flying by!
Things That Are Special to New Zealand
We are learning about New Zealand and what makes it special. We looked at the flag. We learnt that the stars are the Southern Cross. You can see these stars at night time. The Union Jack means that we used to belong to Great Britain. You can see a lot of other things that make New Zealand special too.

10/05/10 What's Going On?
What a stunning day today. A great way to start the week. Everyone worked really hard today. We are trying really hard with our counting backwards in maths. It is pretty tricky with some of those teen numbers. We published our forest stories so they will be ready to go up on the wall this week. Mr D will be away tomorrow because he has nearly lost his voice. He will be back on Wednesday. Be good everyone.
Cory's Rugby
On saturday I got 2 tries at rugby. I got player of the day and I got a trophy and a ribbon.

05/05/10 What's Going On?
What another beautiful day. We went for a walk in the forest this morning to get some ideas for our next piece of moment in time writing. It was such a nice walk. We came up with some great ideas for our writing tomorrow.
We worked really hard in maths today. The "Triangles" were learning about putting numbers in order. We are learning to count backwards from 20. It is a little bit tricky counting back so we should do lots of practise at home.
This afternoon we tried to find out where some places in New Zealand are. We coloured the right places on the right island in green, the wrong places on the right island in orange and the wrong places on the wrong island in red.As you can see we have a bit of learning to do.

04/05/10 What's Going On?
What a great day. It was so nice to have the sun shining all day. We did some great work today. Mr D was really impressed with the way that everyone tried really hard with their printing...because yesterday wasn't too flash. We did some writing about our favourite books today. Mr D's favourite book is Bad Jelly the Witch. This afternoon we did some work on the "br" and "cr" blends, then did some buddy time. We got to practise the cross-country course with our buddies. Have a great evening!

Hannah`s message
On Sunday I went to Island Bay Marine Sanctuary with Grace and Renske and mum and Cam. They have touch pools and I touched a starfish and fed the big fish in the big tank. They splashed me when I dropped the food they tried to grab it and they moved their tails and it splashed out on the floor.
It is fun.
