Where Is Miss Pool?

We have been reading "Where is Miss Pool? by Joy Cowley for our shared book this week. Mr D made a little movie based on the story. We can read it and practise it lots and lots now.

12/02/13 What's Going On in BD Class?

It has been a busy start to the week in BD Class. We got started with some good statistics work yesterday. We asked the question "How do we get to school in the morning?" We talked about all the different ways we could get to school. We all drew a picture and then we sorted them into columns to make a pictogram.

We found out that most people in the class came by car. Mr D asked the question "Why do you think that is?" Olivia said it's probably because people live far away from school. The Mr D asked "How do you think this would look if it was raining?" The class said nearly everyone would come by car. We then showed it in a different way with a pie graph.

For printing we have been practising the letter "o". When we do printing we have a little video playing on a loop to show how to do it.

Harrison did some great writing today and got to show it to Mrs Jennings. Great stuff Harrison!

 This afternoon we talked about the thing that would make our class a great place to be. We came up with these great ideas.

08/02/13 What's Going On in BD Class?

We had a another great day together in BD Class. It was a beautiful day and we got to do lots of great things. We started the day with our Letterland Song and we did all of the actions. After that, we played a couple of games of "Beep." For maths today we did some more statistics. We were wondering about the different eye colours people have. So we went outside and made a human pie graph. This is how it turned out.

We went back to class and made a pie graph on the computer. This is what we found out:

After that we did some writing. We wrote about the caterpillars we drew yesterday. We were trying to write "my" and "is" by ourselves.

Ollie. Olivia, Mason and Blake did such good writing that they got to go and show Mrs Jennings. Well done guys!

07/02/13 Welcome Back to School

We have had a great first day today in BD Class. When we got to school we got to sign in to say we are here at school.

Once the bell went we all sat down and did the roll. After that we did our class karakia. It basically means "May we have the strength to do the work we have to do today."

This morning we went off with a powhiri for all of our new teachers, children and families. Then we got the chance to do a bit of Jump Jam which was great fun. By the time that was all done, it was time for morning tea. After morning tea we did a person hunt. We had to find people in our class who did or liked the following things.

We did some running practise for athletics then did some statistics for maths. We tried to find out how many letters people have in their names. We were trying to see if we could make some statements about the information.

After lunch we had a had a "Pete the Cat" story which was lots of fun. We finished up looking at the caterpillars and doing some caterpillar art. What a great day!

13/11/12 What's Going On

For maths we have been learning about fractions. We know that fractions are really the same as dividing. Mr D found this cool video to help us with our fractions.

We are learning to find the fraction of set. We have been using our division and multiplication skills to work this out.

After morning tea today we planted some seeds. We talked about all the things that a plant needed to grow. We planted some watercress and bean seeds. It is going to be really interesting to see how things grow!

A couple of weeks ago we had Anton and Lucy from Rhythm Interactive come to the school to do a drumming show. It was amazing. There were 200 drums, 200 kids and lots of noise.
