26/10/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

It was a pretty wild and windy day today. That's what Mason thought when he did the Star of the Day date chart this morning.

Mr D was really impressed with our writing today. We were trying to make our writing more interesting by using describing and feeling words. We wrote about the All Blacks winning the Rugby World Cup.

For maths we played a new game. We had to practise putting numbers in order from biggest to smallest. You can click on the picture below and play the game at home.

This afternoon we looked at some different Maori clothing. We saw a piupiu and a special cloak made of feathers. We also looked at our school's own Kapa Haka outfits.

25/10/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

It was great to be back at school today. Our class had suddenly grown. We now have three new children and a new teacher starting school today. We said welcome to Alex, Mason and Toby. We also said welcome to Mrs Arrowsmith. We are a lucky class to have 3 teachers!

We are going to have two Stars of the Day now. Today we had Summer and Alex.

We got stuck into our work today. We practised doing the letter "i" for printing today.

For writing we wrote a little bit about our holidays. We tried to make sure that we started our stories off in an interesting way.

Our blends for this week are "pl" and "sl". We did lots of brainstorming to find lots of words that start with those blends.

At the end of the day we watched some different Kapa Haka performances. We were looking at the different clothes that the performers were wearing. Then we had a go at designing our own costumes.

05/10/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

We have had a very productive day in BD Class. We have finished our inquiry work about the Rugby World Cup. We had to design and make our supporters gear today. First we looked at how design some things. We had to think about:

• What item we would like to design,
• What colours will we need to use,
• What symbols we would need to use.

After that we did a draft design before making our final design. The look really cool!

We also had a Kelly Sport session this morning. We had a go at a whole lot of different sports skills. We tried soccer, tennis, bowling and rugby.

04/10/11 What's Going On in BD Class?

We have had another busy day in BD Class. The weather was pretty bad today but that didn't matter. We got lots of stuff done today. Monique was our Star of the Day today.

We practised the letter "z" for printing today. We had to make sure that we go the right way.

Mr D showed us a really cool website this morning called Build Your Wild Self. You can design your own creatures. For writing, we wrote about the creature Mr D made.

For reading today we looked at two more blends. They are "fl" and "gl". We found out there are quite a few words that start with those blends.

This afternoon, we looked at how we could support different teams in the Rugby World Cup. We came up with lots of interesting ideas. Tomorrow we will be making our supporters' gear.

03/10/11 What's Going On In BD Class?

It was a bit of grey day today but MrS Berney and Mr D were so proud of everyone. BD Class made great choices all day despite being stuck inside. It was like there was a class of quiet little mice all day!

Sam was our Star of the Day today.

Today we looked at the two letters that make the same sound, "z" and "s" that makes a "zzzzz" sound.

There are quite a few words that we use a lot that have these sounds. These are words like:

zoo

zip

zebra

is

was

has

these
