It has been so nice to have a sunny day today. This morning Mr D, Mackenzie and Taine were interviewed by Leo's dad for his web design company's celebration. We can't wait to see it when the website "Down to the Wire" is up and running. You will be able to see them in about a month's time. While that was going on we did some cool symmetry work with Mrs H.
After morning tea we had an excellent production practise. We are getting really good now.
We created our "Spot the Difference" pages today. It was fun creating scene then making the changes to them.

21/09/10 What's Going On in BD Class?
We started off the day with listening to the story of The Hungry Giant. We used the facts from the book to make news reports about what the giant got up to in the village.
After morning tea we did some super subtraction work. We are getting better at using different strategies to take away numbers. After lunch we looked at using our photography skills to make spot-the-difference games. We will have to use a very steady hand and be careful not to bump things. We also went to the suite to finish our I-Spy pages. See if you can find the differences with this photo.

What a crazy day. We had 8 children away! The class seemed really empty. We kicked the day of with doing some I-Spy. We a re getting pretty good at finding things. For writing we are doing some more report writing and practising writing in the 3rd person.
We had a look at our blends for this week. We came up with quite a few words for them too.
After morning tea we did some more planning for our I-Spy books. This afternoon after syndicate assembly we went to the computer suite and started our pages for our I-Spy book. We were re-learning skills such as inserting pictures, highlighting text and typing our text. They are going to look great.

17/09/10 What's Going On in BD Class?
We had a really productive day today. We did a big power writing effort this morning. Mr D is looking forward to seeing how many people beat their record. We did reading and maths this morning as well. For maths everyone is working hard at their subtraction strategies. Some groups are learning to count back to solve a problem. Other groups are learning to skip back to the nearest "ty" number, then take the rest off.
This afternoon we used our photography skills to create and "I-Spy" scene. We have been learning to take more detailed photos so yesterday's session was really useful.
We had to decide:
- what we were going to put in the scenes
- how it was sorted out
- what would be the 6 things people had to find.
Next week we are going to print them off and make a book for the class. Here are some of our photos for the book. See what YOU can find.

We started the day doing printing. We are getting much better at doing the letter "e". We practised all of our "e" words today,
We have finally got all our news report recordings finished. Mr D will put them together today and then we can check them out on our podcast page. We finished off a whole lot of maths work to do with symmetry.
After morning tea we used our photography skills to take some close ups of interesting objects, colours and textures. We looked around the class to see what we could find. Check out these photos!
This afternoon we practised our performance for the show. It is coming together really well!

We finally had some nice weather today! Miss Mahoney was in for us today. We did some cool report writing about Humpty Dumpty and his accident. We are learning to write about the facts of an event. For maths we did some cool rotations looking at shapes, symmetry and using the geo-boards. This morning we got to listen to the first of the BD Class News podcasts. You can check them out by going to our podcast page. Also the music for our production song is on the podcast page too. Make sure you practise your words as you sing along!

Market Day was awesome! We had such a cool day today. The day kind of happened a little out of order because we started with reading, went to the hall for Market Day, then we did maths. We finished the day with printing and writing. Everyone looked pretty funny in their pyjamas.
For writing we had another go at report writing and changing from 1st person to 3rd person.
For printing we are practising the letter "e". It is one of the trickier letters to do neatly.
Well done everyone. $1,361 was collected for the Neo Natal Unit at Wellington Hospital.
Discovery School...you are so generous!

13/09/10 What's Going on in BD Class?
We started the day off with some tricky weekend reporting. Instead of writing about what we have done (1st person), we pretended to be reporters and had a go at writing about our weekends in the 3rd person. We had to make some changes to the way we write.
We started off by writing in the first person. When we had finished we circled all the the words like: I, me, we, us, my etc and replaced them with, he, she, them, their, us etc. It was a bit tricky but we were getting it by the end.

10/09/10 What's Going on in BD Class?
It has been a really cool day today. We have been getting creative with the digital cameras. Because we have been learning about perspective, Mr D set up a scene. We made cut outs of ourselves then put them in the scene. We took photos to show what we knew about perspective. Mr D took a picture of the whole class too.
We did the fundraising for the Earthquake Appeal today. Bluey got in on the act. The school raised an amazing $1,032. Awesome!
While all that was going on we started to record our news reports. Over the weekend, Mr D will get them sorted into podcast to put on our blog. Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi there everyone. Everyone was still really inspired after the drumming show yesterday. Check out the video in yesterdays post to see what happened. Yesterday we also went past 4000 hits on our blog. That's really cool. We did some more news reporting today about the Dylan Elise show. We are really beginning to think about the facts rather than talk about ourselves.

07/09/10 What's Going on in BD Class?
It was a very busy morning because we were juggling photos and news reporting. We had a go at writing a news report about the Goldilocks and the 3 Bears story. We were trying to use "white hat thinking" and getting the facts. We used the 5 Ws to help us write our facts.
Everyone is getting the hang of writing reports now. We did reading today as well and we got through all our maths groups. We are learning to do subtraction now.
