24/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

We started the day off with writing. Alex took the writing session. It was all about why we think Discovery School is the best school in New Zealand. We came up with some really good ideas.

After we had done our persuasive writing, we found out that we had a good opinion and wrap up but we needed to make our reasons more detailed. We had a go at it.

23/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

It has been a bust start to the week in our class. We kicked off the day with some weekend writing. We were really trying hard to use the "5 Ws" to help us write our stories.

After writing we did reading. We looked at some more blends. We looked at "sk" and "sp". We found it a bit tricky because of some of our "sc" blends from last week!

After reading we played a cool game for maths. It is helping us to count on from a number. Today we were adding 4 to a number. We were learning to put our starting number in our head then count on 4 each time. Our first time we took 4:15 minutes. The second time we took 3:35 minutes. We will get better at it.

This afternoon we had another go at taking photos of our buddies. Mr D reminded us of the different shots we can take and to make sure we don't cut things out in the wrong places. Here are our second attempts.

20/08/10 What's Going on in BD Class?

The day got off to a great start. We did Power Writing and 11 people beat their record for writing as many words as they can in ten minutes. Logan did and amazing 69 words.

For persuasive writing we were trying to convince our new friends who have just started school why reading is so cool. We came up with lots of good reasons.

This afternoon we did some cool work about learning how to take a good photo. We looked at some bad ones first to learn "what not to do." 

Then we had a go at taking our own. We were able say if the picture was a long shot, mid shot or a close-up. We also gave each other some feedback about what we could do to make our pictures better. We will have another go on Monday.
